그는 천천히 시장통을 걸었다. 상인들이 가판대를 설치하고 있었고, 소년은 한 사탕 장수가 가판대를 꾸리는 일을 도왔다.
The candy seller had a smile on his face: he was happy, aware of what his life was about, and ready to begin a day’s work.
사탕 장수의 얼굴에는 미소가 가득했다. 그는 행복해 보였고, 자신의 삶이 무엇을 위한 것인지 잘 알고 있는 사람처럼 오늘의 일을 시작할 준비가 되어 있었다.
His smile reminded the boy of the old man—the mysterious old king he had met.
그의 미소는 소년에게 노인을, 그가 만났던 신비로운 늙은 왕을 떠올리게 했다.
“This candy merchant isn’t making candy so that later he can travel or marry a shopkeeper’s daughter.
“이 사탕 장수는 나중에 여행을 떠나거나 가게 주인의 딸과 결혼하기 위해 사탕을 만드는 게 아니야.
He’s doing it because it’s what he wants to do,” thought the boy.
그저 본인이 원해서 이 일을 하는 거지.” 소년은 생각했다.
