“Let’s stop this,” another commander said. “I want to see the greatness of Allah,” the chief said, with respect.
“이제 멈추도록 하죠.” 다른 장교가 거들었다. “나는 알라의 위대함을 보고 싶다.” 지휘관이 경외심을 담아 대답했다.
“I want to see how a man turns himself into the wind.” But he made a mental note of the names of the two men who had expressed their fear.
“사람이 어떻게 스스로 바람이 되는지 똑똑히 지켜보고 싶단 말이다.” 하지만 그는 두려움을 드러낸 두 남자의 이름을 마음속에 새겨두었다.
As soon as the wind stopped, he was going to remove them from their commands, because true men of the desert are not afraid.
바람이 잦아들자마자 그는 그들의 직위를 박탈할 생각이었다. 사막의 진정한 사내는 두려움을 모르는 법이기 때문이다.
“The wind told me that you know about love,” the boy said to the sun.
“바람이 그러는데, 당신은 사랑에 대해 알고 있다고 하더군요.” 소년이 태양에게 말을 걸었다.
사막과 바람에게 도움을 구했던 소년이 이제 만물의 생명 에너지를 주관하는 태양과 대화를 시작합니다.
“If you know about love, you must also know about the Soul of the World, because it’s made of love.”
“사랑에 대해 아신다면 ‘세상의 영혼’에 대해서도 틀림없이 알고 계시겠죠. 그것은 사랑으로 만들어졌으니까요.”
“From where I am,” the sun said, “I can see the Soul of the World.
“내가 있는 이곳에서라면,” 태양이 말했다. “나도 ‘세상의 영혼’을 볼 수 있단다.”
It communicates with my soul, and together we cause the plants to grow and the sheep to seek out shade.
“그것은 나의 영혼과 교감하며, 우리는 함께 식물을 자라게 하고 양들이 그늘을 찾아가게 만들지.”
From where I am—and I’m a long way from the earth—I learned how to love.
“지구에서 아주 멀리 떨어져 있는 이곳에서, 나는 사랑하는 법을 배웠단다.”
I know that if I came even a little bit closer to the earth, everything there would die, and the Soul of the World would no longer exist.
“내가 지구에 아주 조금만 더 가까이 다가간다 해도 그곳의 모든 생명은 죽게 될 것이고, ‘세상의 영혼’ 또한 더 이상 존재하지 않게 된다는 걸 알고 있지.”
So we contemplate each other, and we want each other, and I give it life and warmth, and it gives me my reason for living.”
“그래서 우리는 서로를 응시하며 서로를 원한단다. 나는 그것에 생명과 온기를 나누어주고, 그것은 내게 삶의 이유를 일러주지.”
태양은 세상의 영혼과의 조화로운 교감을 통해 사랑의 의미를 설명합니다. 적절한 거리에서 생명력을 나누고 존재의 이유를 확인하는 것이 그들의 사랑법인 모양입니다.
“So you know about love,” the boy said. “And I know the Soul of the World,
“당신은 진정 사랑에 대해 알고 계시는군요.” 소년이 말했다. “나 또한 ‘세상의 영혼’을 아주 잘 안단다.” 태양이 말을 이었다.
because we have talked at great length to each other during this endless trip through the universe.
“이 끝없는 우주 여행을 하는 동안 우리는 수없이 많은 대화를 나누었으니까.”
