“그리고 제가 사랑하는 여인의 목소리를 실어 나르고 싶습니다.” “네가 요전날 연금술사와 나눈 이야기를 들었단다.” 바람이 말했다.
“He said that everything has its own Personal Legend. But people can’t turn themselves into the wind.”
“그는 만물에게 저마다의 자아의 신화가 있다고 했지. 하지만 인간은 스스로 바람이 될 수는 없어.”
“Just teach me to be the wind for a few moments,” the boy said. “So you and I can talk about the limitless possibilities of people and the winds.”
“잠시만이라도 바람이 되는 법을 가르쳐주세요.” 소년이 말했다. “그러면 당신과 제가 인간과 바람의 무한한 가능성에 대해 이야기할 수 있을 테니까요.”
The wind’s curiosity was aroused, something that had never happened before.
바람은 이제껏 단 한 번도 느껴보지 못한 호기심에 사로잡혔다.
It wanted to talk about those things, but it didn’t know how to turn a man into the wind.
바람은 그런 것들에 대해 이야기하고 싶었으나, 사람을 바람으로 바꾸는 방법은 알지 못했다.
And look how many things the wind already knew how to do! It created deserts, sank ships, felled entire forests,
바람이 할 줄 아는 일은 이미 아주 많았다! 바람은 사막을 만들고, 배를 침몰시키고, 울창한 숲을 쓰러뜨렸다.
and blew through cities filled with music and strange noises. It felt that it had no limits,
음악과 기이한 소음으로 가득한 도시들을 가로질러 불기도 했다. 바람은 자신에게 한계란 없다고 생각했다.
yet here was a boy saying that there were other things the wind should be able to do.
그런데 여기 한 소년이 나타나 바람이 마땅히 할 수 있어야 할 또 다른 일이 있다고 말하고 있는 것이었다.
“This is what we call love,” the boy said, seeing that the wind was close to granting what he requested.
“우리는 이것을 사랑이라고 불러요.” 바람이 소년의 요청을 들어줄 것 같은 기색을 보이자 소년이 말했다.
소년은 사랑을 단순한 감정이 아니라, 불가능을 가능하게 만드는 창조적인 에너지로 정의하고 있습니다.
“When you are loved, you can do anything in creation. When you are loved, there’s no need at all to understand what’s happening,
“누군가로부터 사랑받을 때, 우리는 만물 중 그 무엇이라도 될 수 있어요. 사랑받을 때는 세상에 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 굳이 이해할 필요가 없죠.”
because everything happens within you, and even men can turn themselves into the wind. As long as the wind helps, of course.”
“모든 일이 우리 내면에서 일어나고, 인간조차 스스로 바람이 될 수 있으니까요. 물론 바람이 도와주기만 한다면 말이에요.”
