and his enthusiasm during the time he had worked at the crystal shop.
그리고 크리스털 가게에서 일하던 시절의 열정 같은 것들이었다.
And his heart told him something else that the boy had never noticed:
또한 마음은 소년이 결코 알아채지 못했던 다른 사실에 대해서도 들려주었다.
it told the boy of dangers that had threatened him, but that he had never perceived.
그것은 소년을 위협했지만 정작 본인은 전혀 느끼지 못했던 위험들에 대한 이야기였다.
His heart said that one time it had hidden the rifle the boy had taken from his father, because of the possibility that the boy might wound himself.
한번은 소년이 아버지에게서 몰래 가져온 총에 스스로 다칠까 봐 마음이 그 총을 숨겨둔 적이 있었다고 했다.
과거의 우연한 사건들을 마음의 보호라는 관점에서 재해석하고 있습니다. 우리가 깨닫지 못하는 순간에도 삶의 수호자가 작동하고 있었다는 설정이 따뜻하게 느껴지네요.
And it reminded the boy of the day when he had been ill and vomiting out in the fields, after which he had fallen into a deep sleep.
마음은 소년이 들판에서 병이 나 구토를 한 뒤 깊은 잠에 빠졌던 날을 상기시켰다.
There had been two thieves farther ahead who were planning to steal the boy’s sheep and murder him.
사실 그때 소년의 앞길에는 양을 훔치고 소년을 살해할 계획을 세우던 도둑 두 명이 도사리고 있었다.
But, since the boy hadn’t passed by, they had decided to move on, thinking that he had changed his route.
하지만 소년이 나타나지 않자, 도둑들은 소년이 길을 바꿨다고 생각하고는 그냥 가버렸던 것이다.
“Does a man’s heart always help him?” the boy asked the alchemist.
“사람의 마음은 언제나 그를 돕나요?” 소년이 연금술사에게 물었다.
“Mostly just the hearts of those who are trying to realize their Personal Legends. But they do help children, drunkards, and the elderly, too.”
“대개는 자신의 자아의 신화를 실현하려 노력하는 이들의 마음이 그러하지. 하지만 어린아이들이나 주정뱅이들, 그리고 노인들도 돕기는 한단다.”
