Momo tried it. She turned around and walked backwards, and all at once she was progressing up the lane with the utmost ease.

Because she was still rather slow at reading, the door had begun to close again by the time she'd finished.
She slipped hurriedly inside, and it shut behind her with a sound like muffled thunder.
