“Are you okay about all this?” her brother asked, having just got two drinks from the coffee machine.

He tore a sachet to release a teabag. Peppermint. He placed it into the cup of hot water he’d taken from the coffee machine.
그는 봉지를 뜯어 페퍼민트 티백을 꺼냈다. 그리고 자판기에서 받아온 뜨거운 물이 담긴 컵에 티백을 넣었다.
Then he handed it to Nora. She had never drunk peppermint tea in her life.
그러고는 그것을 노라에게 건넸다. 노라는 평생 페퍼민트 티를 마셔본 적이 없었다.
“That’s for me?” “Well, yeah. It was the only herbal they had.”
“이거 내 거야?” “응, 허브차는 이거밖에 없더라고.”
He had a coffee for himself that Nora secretly craved. Maybe in this life she didn’t drink caffeine.
그는 자신이 마실 커피를 들고 있었는데, 노라는 속으로 그 커피를 무척이나 간절히 원했다. 아마 이 삶의 그녀는 카페인을 마시지 않는 모양이었다.

Are you okay about all this? “Okay about all what?” Nora wondered.

“오늘 강연 말이야.” “아, 음, 응. 강연이 몇 분이지?” “40분.” “알겠어.” “강연료가 꽤 돼. 내가 10에서 올렸거든.”
오빠 조가 노라의 매니저로서 수완을 발휘해 강연료 협상까지 척척 해냈음을 알 수 있습니다.
“That’s very good of you.” “Well, I still get my twenty per cent. Hardly a sacrifice.”
“정말 대단하네.” “뭐, 나도 수수료 20퍼센트는 챙기니까. 딱히 손해 보는 장사는 아냐.”
Nora tried to think how she could unlock their shared history.
