he put his strong snout into the ground and began pushing, digging, and rooting.

He felt very happy. He had plowed up quite a piece of ground before anyone noticed him.
윌버는 정말 행복했답니다. 누군가 자기를 발견하기 전까지 꽤 넓은 땅을 갈아엎었지요.
Mrs. Zuckerman was the first to see him. She saw him from the kitchen window, and she immediately shouted for the men.
윌버를 가장 먼저 본 사람은 저커먼 부인이었어요. 부인은 부엌 창밖으로 윌버를 보고는 즉시 남자들을 향해 소리를 질렀답니다.
“Homer!” she cried. “Pig’s out! Lurvy! Pig’s out! Homer! Lurvy! Pig’s out. He’s down there under that apple tree.”
“호머! 돼지가 나왔어요! 러비! 돼지가 나왔다니까요! 호머! 러비! 돼지가 탈출했어요. 저기 사과나무 아래에 있단 말이에요.”
저커먼 농장의 일꾼 러비(Lurvy)가 처음 언급됩니다. 윌버에게 먹이를 주고 우리를 관리하는 등 농장의 여러 잡무를 담당하는 인물입니다.
“Now the trouble starts,” thought Wilbur. “Now I’ll catch it.” The goose heard the racket and she, too, started hollering.
‘이제 큰일 났다.’ 윌버는 생각했어요. ‘이제 단단히 혼나겠는걸.’ 거위는 소동을 듣고는 자기도 큰 소리로 외치기 시작했어요.
catch it은 잘못을 저질러 혼나다 혹은 벌을 받다라는 뜻으로 쓰이는 구어체 표현입니다.
“Run-run-run downhill, make for the woods, the woods!” she shouted to Wilbur.
“언덕 아래로 달려-달려-달려, 숲으로 가, 숲으로!” 거위가 윌버에게 소리쳤어요.
“They’ll never-never-never catch you in the woods.” The cocker spaniel heard the commotion
“숲속에선 절대-절대-절대 널 못 잡을 거야.” 코커스패니얼 개도 소란스러운 소리를 들었어요.
and he ran out from the barn to join the chase. Mr. Zuckerman heard, and he came out of the machine shed
개는 뒤쫓는 대열에 합류하려고 외양간에서 달려 나왔어요. 저커먼 씨도 소리를 듣고는 기계 창고에서 밖으로 나왔지요.
where he was mending a tool. Lurvy, the hired man, heard the noise and came up from the asparagus patch
거기서 도구를 수리하던 중이었거든요. 일꾼인 러비도 소음을 듣고 아스파라거스 밭에서 달려왔어요.
where he was pulling weeds. Everybody walked toward Wilbur and Wilbur didn’t know what to do.
러비는 거기서 잡초를 뽑고 있었지요. 모두가 윌버를 향해 걸어오자 윌버는 어쩔 줄을 몰랐답니다.
The woods seemed a long way off, and anyway, he had never been down there in the woods and wasn’t sure he would like it.
숲은 너무나 멀어 보였어요. 게다가 숲속엔 한 번도 가본 적이 없어서 거기가 마음에 들지 어떨지도 확신이 서지 않았지요.
“Get around behind him, Lurvy,” said Mr. Zuckerman, “and drive him toward the barn! And take it easy—don’t rush him!”
“러비, 돼지 뒤쪽으로 가서 외양간 쪽으로 몰아!” 저커먼 씨가 말했어요. “그리고 살살 해. 너무 몰아붙이지 말고!”
