앞서 언급되었던 레이먼드의 어머니, 기번스 부인이 처음으로 에리너의 집에 방문하며 직접 등장하는 장면입니다.

“기사님이 정말 친절하시더구나, 엘리너. 그렇지 않았니, 레이먼드?” 그녀가 말했다.
Raymond nodded, and I thought I detected a hint, just a tiny one, of weariness,
레이먼드 씨는 고개를 끄덕였는데, 내 눈에는 아주 미세하게나마 그가 지긋지긋해하는 기색이 포착된 것 같았다.

walking frame은 거동이 불편한 분들이 체중을 싣고 밀며 걸을 수 있게 돕는 보행 보조기구입니다.
“That’s right, Mum,” he said, tucking her walking frame into the corner of the living room while she settled herself on the sofa.
“맞아요, 엄마.” 그녀가 소파에 자리를 잡는 동안 레이먼드 씨가 보조기를 거실 구석에 치워두며 대답했다.

iconoclast(아이코노클래스트)는 인습 타파주의자라는 뜻입니다. 손님이 오든 말든 자기 마음대로 행동하는 고양이의 도도한 성격을 재치 있게 표현했습니다.

그리하여 이불 밑에서 가볍게 코를 골며 웅크리고 있는 덩어리 말고는 녀석에 대해 볼 수 있는 것이 아무것도 없었다.
Mrs. Gibbons was disappointed, but I left her to peruse some photos on my phone while I went to make tea.
