“Sorry?” the woman said, not sounding sorry at all. The man simply stared at me, in a manner best described as mildly hostile.

남자의 입은 살짝 벌어졌고, 여자의 입술은 서서히 가늘어지더니 아주 팽팽한 한 일 자를 그렸다.
She turned back to him and they began to whisper together, looking round more than once to steal a quick glance at me.
여자는 남자 쪽으로 고개를 돌리더니 함께 속삭이기 시작했다. 중간중간 나를 힐끔거리며 살피는 것도 잊지 않았다.
Nothing more was said, although they glared at me as they walked out, having paid for their goods. Not a word of thanks.
그들은 계산을 마치고 나가면서 나를 쏘아보았을 뿐, 더 이상 아무 말도 하지 않았다. 감사 인사 한마디 없었다.
I gave them a little wave. Mr. Dewan smiled warmly at me when I finally reached the till.
나는 그들에게 손을 살짝 흔들어 주었다. 마침내 계산대에 다다르자 드완 씨가 나를 보며 따뜻하게 미소 지었다.
