When one thing happens and suddenly, things are back to normal. On Monday, Brad came back to school.

He looked very different. It wasn’t that he was bruised or anything. His face actually looked fine.
걔는 아주 달라 보였어. 멍이 들었거나 어디 다친 건 아니었지. 얼굴은 오히려 멀쩡해 보였어.
But before, Brad was always this guy who walked down the hallway with a bounce. I can’t really describe it any other way.
하지만 예전의 브래드는 복도를 걸을 때 항상 몸에 생기가 넘쳤거든. 달리 설명할 방법이 없네.
with a bounce는 발걸음이 가볍고 활기차며 자신감이 넘치는 모습을 표현하는 관용구입니다.
It’s just that some people walk with their heads to the ground for some reason. They don’t like to look other people in the eye.
어떤 사람들은 왠지 모르게 고개를 푹 숙이고 걷곤 하잖아. 다른 사람들과 눈을 마주치는 걸 싫어해서 말이야.
Brad was never like that. But now he is. Especially when it comes to Patrick.
브래드는 절대 그런 애가 아니었는데, 이젠 그래. 특히 패트릭 앞에서 말이야.
I saw them talking quiet in the hallway. I was too far away to hear what they said, but I could tell that Brad was ignoring Patrick.
복도에서 둘이 조용히 얘기하는 걸 봤어. 너무 멀어서 무슨 말을 하는지 들리진 않았지만, 브래드가 패트릭을 무시하고 있다는 건 알 수 있었지.
And when Patrick started to get upset, Brad just closed his locker and walked away.
패트릭이 화가 나기 시작하자, 브래드는 그냥 사물함 문을 닫고 가버렸어.
It wasn’t that strange because Brad and Patrick never talked in school since Brad wanted things to be secret.
브래드가 비밀로 하고 싶어 했기 때문에 둘이 학교에서 말을 섞지 않는 건 그리 이상한 일이 아니었어.
The strange part was that Patrick would walk up to Brad in the first place.
이상한 건 애초에 패트릭이 브래드에게 먼저 다가갔다는 사실이었지.
So, I guessed that they didn’t meet on the golf courses anymore. Or talk on the phone even.
그래서 난 이제 둘이 골프장에서 만나지도 않고, 전화도 안 한다고 짐작했어.
골프장(golf courses)은 앞서(ID 415, 626) 브래드와 패트릭이 남들의 눈을 피해 비밀리에 만남을 이어오던 장소입니다.
Later that afternoon, I was having a cigarette outside by myself, and I saw Patrick alone, also having a cigarette.
그날 오후 늦게 밖에서 혼자 담배를 피우고 있는데, 패트릭도 혼자 담배를 피우고 있는 걸 봤어.
I wasn’t close enough to really see him, but I didn’t want to interfere with his personal time, so I didn’t walk up to him.
얼굴이 제대로 보일 만큼 가까운 거리는 아니었지만, 걔만의 시간을 방해하고 싶지 않아서 다가가지는 않았어.
