but he told me to stop “hanging on his shoulders like a monkey” because he wanted to watch the hockey game.
하지만 아빠는 하키 경기를 보고 싶다며 나보고 “원숭이처럼 어깨에 매달려 있지 마라”라고 말씀하셨어.
I watched the hockey game with him for a while,
난 한동안 아빠 옆에서 같이 하키 경기를 봤어.
but I couldn’t stop asking him questions about which countries the players are from,
그런데 내가 선수들이 어느 나라 출신인지 계속 질문을 멈추지 못했거든.
and he was “resting his eyes,” which means he was sleeping but didn’t want me to change the channel.
아빠는 “눈을 좀 붙이고” 계셨는데, 그건 주무시고는 있지만 내가 채널을 돌리는 건 원치 않으신다는 뜻이야.
resting his eyes는 텔레비전을 켜놓은 채 조는 어른들이 흔히 사용하는 유머러스한 변명입니다.
So, he told me to go watch television with my sister, which I did,
그래서 아빠는 누나랑 같이 TV를 보라고 하셨고, 난 그렇게 했어.
but she told me to go help my mother in the kitchen, which I did,
하지만 누나는 주방에서 엄마를 도와드리라고 했고, 난 또 그렇게 했지.
but then she told me to go read in my room. Which I did.
그런데 엄마는 다시 방에 가서 책이나 읽으라고 하시더라고. 그래서 결국 난 그렇게 했어.
I’ve read about a third of the book now, and it’s pretty good so far.
이제 책을 3분의 1 정도 읽었는데, 지금까지는 꽤 괜찮은 것 같아.
