She lifted the grilled cheese onto a plate and put the plate in front of me on the counter.
엄마는 구운 치즈 샌드위치를 접시에 담아 주방 카운터에 앉은 내 앞에 놓아주셨다.
“Milk or white grape juice?” “Chocolate milk, please?” I started devouring the sandwich.
“우유 줄까, 아니면 청포도 주스?” “초코 우유요, 제발요.” 나는 샌드위치를 게걸스럽게 먹기 시작했다.
“Oh, can you do it that special way you make it, with the froth?”
“아, 엄마가 만들어 주시는 그 특별한 방식 있잖아요, 거품 내서 하는 거. 그렇게 해주시면 안 돼요?”
“How did you and Jack end up at the edge of the woods in the first place?” she said, pouring the milk into a tall glass.
“애초에 어쩌다가 너랑 잭이 숲 가장자리까지 가게 된 거니?” 엄마가 기다란 유리잔에 우유를 부으며 물으셨다.
“Jack had to go to the bathroom,” I answered, my mouth full.
“잭이 화장실에 가야 했거든요.” 내가 입안에 음식을 가득 문 채 대답했다.
As I was talking, she spooned in the chocolate powder and started rolling a small whisk between her palms really fast.
내가 말을 하는 동안, 엄마는 초코 가루를 한 숟가락 듬뿍 퍼 넣고는 작은 거품기를 두 손바닥 사이에 끼워 아주 빠르게 돌리기 시작하셨다.

She looked up at me while she was whisking. I know she was thinking we shouldn't have done that.
