“I know.” I nodded. “Thank you.” “You're welcome,” she answered. “You want me to tell Julian to come and talk to you?”
“나도 알아.” 나는 고개를 끄덕였다. “고마워.” “천만에.” 사바나가 대답했다. “줄리안더러 이쪽으로 와서 너랑 이야기 좀 하라고 할까?”
I looked over to where she was pointing and could see Julian looking over at us.
사바나가 가리키는 쪽을 보니 줄리안이 우리를 쳐다보고 있었다.
“Um, I actually need to go to the bathroom. Where is that?” I went to where she pointed, sat down on the side of the bathtub,
“음, 나 사실 화장실 좀 가야겠어. 어디니?” 나는 사바나가 가리킨 곳으로 가서 욕조 가장자리에 걸터앉았다.
and called Mom and asked her to pick me up. “Is everything okay?” said Mom.
그러고는 엄마에게 전화를 걸어 나를 데리러 와 달라고 부탁했다. “무슨 일 있니?” 엄마가 물으셨다.
“Yeah, I just don't want to stay,” I said. Mom didn't ask any more questions and said she'd be there in ten minutes.
“응, 그냥 여기 더 있고 싶지 않아서.” 내가 말했다. 엄마는 더 묻지 않고 10분 뒤에 도착하겠다고 하셨다.
“Don't ring the bell,” I told her. “Just call me when you're outside.”
“초인종은 누르지 마.” 내가 엄마에게 말했다. “그냥 집 밖에 도착하면 전화해 줘.”
I hung out in the bathroom until Mom called, and then I snuck upstairs without anyone seeing me, got my jacket, and went outside.
나는 엄마가 전화할 때까지 화장실에서 기다렸다. 그러고는 아무에게도 들키지 않게 살금살금 위층으로 올라가 재킷을 챙겨 밖으로 나갔다.
It was only nine-thirty. The Halloween Parade was in full swing down Amesfort Avenue. Huge crowds everywhere.
겨우 9시 반이었다. 에임스포트 애비뉴에서는 할로윈 퍼레이드가 한창이었다. 어디를 가나 엄청난 인파가 몰려 있었다.
Everyone was in costume. Skeletons. Pirates. Princesses. Vampires. Superheroes. But not one unicorn.
모두가 코스튬을 입고 있었다. 해골, 해적, 공주, 뱀파이어, 슈퍼히어로. 하지만 유니콘은 단 한 마리도 없었다.
unicorn(유니콘)은 썸머가 할로윈 퍼레이드에서 입으려고 직접 만든 코스튬입니다. 사바나의 파티에 가느라 정성껏 만든 옷을 입지 못한 아쉬움이 묻어납니다.

11월
November(11월)로 시간이 전환됩니다. 할로윈의 떠들썩한 분위기가 가라앉고 다시 일상적인 학교 생활로 돌아온 시점입니다.
The next day at school I told Savanna I had eaten some really bad Halloween candy and gotten sick,
다음 날 학교에서 나는 사바나에게 할로윈 사탕을 잘못 먹고 배탈이 났다고 말했다.
which is why I went home early from her party, and she believed me.
그래서 파티에서 일찍 갔던 거라고 하자 사바나는 내 말을 믿어 주었다.
