Mr. Pendanski entered the Wreck Room. “Stanley,” he called as he made his way to him.

“His name’s Caveman,” said X-Ray. “Stanley,” said Mr. Pendanski.

“My name’s Caveman,” said Stanley. “Well, I have a letter here for someone named Stanley Yelnats,” said Mr. Pendanski.

He turned over an envelope in his hands. “It doesn’t say Caveman anywhere.”

“Uh, thanks,” Stanley said, taking it. It was from his mother.
“어, 고맙습니다.” 스탠리가 편지를 받으며 말했다. 어머니가 보낸 편지였다.
“Who’s it from?” Squid asked. “Your mother?” Stanley put it in the big pocket of his pants.
“누구한테 온 거야?” 스퀴드가 물었다. “너네 엄마야?” 스탠리는 편지를 바지 주머니에 쑥 집어넣었다.
“Aren’t you going to read it to us?” asked Armpit. “Give him some space,” said X-Ray.
“우리한테 안 읽어줄 거야?” 암핏이 물었다. “그만 좀 괴롭혀.” 엑스레이가 가로막았다.
“If Caveman doesn’t want to read it to us, he doesn’t have to. It’s probably from his girlfriend.”
“원시인이 읽기 싫다면 안 읽어도 되는 거야. 아마 여자 친구한테 온 거겠지.”
Stanley smiled. He read it later, after the other boys had gone to dinner.
스탠리는 미소 지었다. 그는 나중에 다른 아이들이 저녁을 먹으러 가고 나서 편지를 읽었다.
“Dear Stanley, It was wonderful to hear from you. Your letter made me feel like one of the other moms who can afford to send their kids to summer camp.
“사랑하는 스탠리에게, 네 소식을 들으니 정말 좋구나. 네 편지를 읽으니 나도 아이를 여름 캠프에 보낼 형편이 되는 다른 엄마들 중 한 명이 된 기분이었어.”
