그것이 두 번째 몬스터에게로 다가갔다. 순간 눈이 핑 돌 만큼 어지럽게 형체가 섞이더니, 훨씬 더 거대해진 하나의 몬스터가 되어 있었다.
I await your command, boy, it said.
“네 명령을 기다리마, 얘야.” 그것이 말했다.
Conor could feel his breathing growing heavy again. His heart was racing and that feverish feeling had come over him once more.
코너는 다시 숨이 가빠지는 것을 느꼈다. 심장은 요동쳤고, 다시 한번 열병 같은 기운이 온몸을 휘감았다.
코너가 느끼는 열병은 단순한 신체적 증상이 아니라, 억눌린 감정이 임계점에 도달했음을 알리는 신호라고 할 수 있습니다.
He waited a long moment. Then he said, “Knock over the fireplace.”
그는 한참 동안 뜸을 들였다. 그러고는 입을 열었다. “벽난로를 무너뜨려.”
코너가 드디어 명령을 내렸습니다. 이 순간 코너는 단순한 관찰자가 아니라 파괴의 주체가 됩니다.
The monster’s fist immediately lashed out and struck the stone hearth from its foundations,
몬스터의 주먹이 즉시 날아가 돌난로를 기초부터 쳐부수었다.
the brick chimney tumbling down on top of it in a loud clatter.
벽돌 굴뚝이 요란한 소리를 내며 그 위로 무너져 내렸다.
Conor’s breath got heavier still, like he was the one doing the destroying.
코너의 숨소리는 더욱 거칠어졌다. 마치 그가 직접 모든 것을 부수고 있는 것 같았다.
“Throw away their beds,” he said. The monster picked up the beds from the two roofless bedrooms and flung them into the air,
“침대들을 내던져 버려.” 그가 말했다. 몬스터는 지붕이 날아간 두 침실에서 침대를 집어 들어 허공으로 던져버렸다.
so hard they seemed to sail nearly to the horizon before crashing to the ground.
어찌나 세게 던졌는지, 침대들은 지평선 끝까지 날아가는 듯하더니 대지로 곤두박질쳤다.
“Smash their furniture!” Conor shouted. “Smash everything!”
“가구들도 다 박살 내버려!” 코너가 소리쳤다. “전부 다 부숴버려!”
The monster stomped around the interior of the house, crushing every piece of furniture it could find with satisfying crashes and crunches.
몬스터는 집 안을 쿵쾅거리며 돌아다녔고, 눈에 띄는 가구마다 짓밟아 뭉개버렸다. 기분 좋은 파괴음이 사방에서 울려 퍼졌다.
가구들이 비명을 지르는 듯한 소리가 들리는 것 같군요. 할머니의 결벽증적인 깔끔함이 순식간에 가루가 되어 사라지고 있습니다.
